Daphne Economou
University of Westminster Senior Lecturer
London, United Kingdom
I have 20 years’ teaching and research experience in higher education, in the areas of HCI, Mobile UX, Web Design and Development, and in VR. I am particularly interested in the use and the design of VR/AR platforms to engage effectively learners in educational tasks and empowering teachers in creating bespoke simulations using VR platforms without the need to be experts in VR. I lead the Serious Games at Westminster (SG@W) Research group that looks at aspects of gamification to motivate and engage users interacting with technology.
I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. In 2016 I received recognition of excellence in supporting and inspiring students, and in 2019 I won the Westminster Learning & Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Westminster.
I have been a research fellow in projects funded by organisations like the Greek Ministry of Trade, SONY, Innovate UK, and by the University of Westminster. I led and successfully completed research projects funded by the European Union. I also have industrial experience as a Human Factors Engineer at Sony, UK (and I hold a patent with Sony).
I am a member of IEEE, the British Computer Society, the British Interactive Media Association (BIMA), and iLRN.
